Part biogrophy and part art iconography, I have repeatedly returned to the studies of the nurse and baby, which originally came from medical books on 'How to take care of baby'. The biographical element being artist as a baby and my mother who was a nurse. The Iconography of the Madonna and child here represented as a surrogate carer and infant, the Red Cross becoming a symbol foreshadowing the infants fate.
