David Hume Consumed
Etchings made in a series commissioned for Hauser & Wirth , Fife Arms Hotel for the Philosophy Room . David Humes ideas on skepticism especially in terms of religion and also his belief in the consumption of life angered many of his religious peers and they vowed he’d burn in hell. But David Hume went to the grave a content and happy man. His work had a major influence on philosophy and science from Kant to Einstein; a precursor to cognitive science. Though more recently he may become remembered more for his archaic comments on race and the statues of him in Edinburgh becoming targets for vandalism, I made my series before recent public attention but my image somehow became more fitting in hindsight.
