A series of work using a colouring book aesthetic and the style of a children’s drawing. My original idea stemmed out of considering the nursery rhyme of Jack and Jill as a Sisyphean parable; its girl and boy protagonists forever trapped in the retelling of their downfall.
The series touches on several themes namely luck or fortune and wish for-fillment. The image of a Well is a core motif in this series. The Well was once a central part of any community and was steeped in folklore…here it is portrayed as a garden wishing well, looming on the horizons like a new church…for dreams and wishes…less for the life sustaining H20. .

A staple of colouring books and kitsch mantle piece statues,
An image born of Victorian art that romanticised the orphan child, the child with a tear rolling down its cheek, the vagrant child on the dusty road with a bindlestiff full of dreams.
